[Dr Larry Smarr, Director of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technologies, recently gave an excellent talk at Microsoft on “Three leadership opportunities for Washington State to Live in the Future”.
Although specifically aimed at Washington state I think these three opportunities can be equally applied to R&E networks and universities around the world. I have had the pleasure of working with Dr Smarr on these topics for many years and those who follow my blog know that I have been promoting them for some time now. Dr Smarr’s presentation is a very succinct and compelling summary of the opportunities.Briefly the three opportunities are:
(a) eScience and fiber networks for research and communities
(b) addressing the challenge of climate change
(c) personal health with integrated R&E wireless and sensor networks
